SHA maintenance crews continue to plow roads in the area, although the heavy snow and high winds are causing major delays and hazardous conditions in western Allegany County and all of Garrett County.

SHA CREWS CONTINUE TO BATTLE AGAINST RECORD BREAKING STORM
With the low temperatures, snow remains on many road surfaces and icy conditions exist. Crews will still be out removing snow, so your patience and continued caution is appreciated. Citizens can do their part by following the safety tips in this Video video and brochure. Remember to allow extra travel time and be on the alert for changing conditions, including lanes being narrowed or eliminated by encroaching snow.

SHA has closed the three left lanes of southbound Baltimore Beltway ( I-695 outer loop) between south of Wilkens Avenue and I-95 
Emergency: Water Main Break
SHA has closed the three left lanes of southbound Baltimore Beltway ( I-695 outer loop) between south of Wilkens Avenue and I-95 while Baltimore City crews assess damages to a broken City water main beneath the beltway. Motorists are urged to stay away from this area as traffic backups are increasing steadily.

Major delays ahead for MdTA’s Curtis Creek Drawbridge project.

On Jan. 4 the Maryland Transportation Authority began implementing extended lane closures to repair drawbridge-lifting mechanisms at the Curtis Creek Drawbridge.

Governor O’Malley joined by state and local officials held a ribbon cutting for the new $107 million I-70 interchange at MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike)/East Street. 
I-70 Interchange Opening
 
The new interchange provides a new gateway entrance to the City of Frederick from I-70 and relieves congestion on MD 355 (Market Street). It also provides better access to the MARC train station.

State Crews Continue to Clear Highways
Drivers should continue to use caution and allow for extra time to get to their destinations. Crews will be pushing back snow from shoulders, ramps and turn lanes, as well as clearing snow from park and ride lots and secondary roads. Watch out for black ice as temperatures fall.

SAFETY MEASURE SAVES LIVES
Travel along MD 135 (Maryland Highway) down Backbone Mountain in Bloomington ends with a 90 degree right turn, which can be difficult to navigate, at a high rate of speed. In recent years the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA) has enhanced safety by adding three mandatory truck pull off areas requiring truck drivers to stop and verify their brakes are functioning properly.

The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) and the Maryland Transportation Authority (MdTA) are assisting Exelon Nuclear with a major oversized vehicle transport through northeastern Harford County scheduled to begin 9 p.m. Monday night, July 27.
