***REVISED TRAFFIC ALERT***
STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TEMPORARILY CLOSES TWO LANES ON THE INNER LOOP OF THE CAPITAL BELTWAY THIS WEEKEND IN PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY
Major Delays Expected; Double Lane Closures between MD 295 and MD 450 Necessary to Expedite Resurfacing Project
(August 5, 2004) - As part of the State Highway Administration’s (SHA) $9 million resurfacing project on I-95/I-495 (Capital Beltway) in Prince George’s County, motorists traveling along the Inner Loop this weekend will be affected by double-lane closures between MD 295 (Baltimore Washington Parkway) and MD 450 (Annapolis Road). The closures are necessary as SHA continues the resurfacing and improvement project along I-495 between MD 295 and US 50 (John Hanson Highway).
Weather permitting, two right lanes will be closed on the Inner Loop of I-95 beginning Friday night, August 6, 2004 at 9 p.m. until Saturday, August 7 at 10 a.m. SHA may close two right lanes again on Saturday, August 7 at 9 p.m. until Sunday, August 8 at 10 a.m. Additionally, SHA will close individual ramps for up to four hours at the MD 295/I-95 Interchange. Variable Message Signs (VMS) will provide motorists detours as ramps are closed.
Additional weekend closures are planned throughout the summer to complete the project in the most expeditious manner.
SHA recommends choosing alternate routes over the weekend. Arrow boards, traffic barrels, variable message signs, and highway advisory radio (1290 AM) will be used to direct and guide motorists through the work zone.
SHA encourages all motorists to drive responsibly. This includes driving the speed limit in work zones, and remaining alert at all times.
