Weems Creek Bridge Work

Today, the existing 67’ wide bridge carries four travel lanes; it will be replaced with a 76’ wide bridge. Feedback from the community advisory committee resulted in aesthetic treatments (see renderings below). Some of the enhancements are the addition of a sidewalk on the East side, wider shoulders to accommodate bicycles and a wider median that matches the bridge approaches. The wider median preserves the opportunity to add a fifth lane in the future after the study process. In addition, the existing traffic lane widths will be reduced by one foot in order to calm traffic speeds.

During construction, all existing traffic lanes will be maintained during peak travel hours. During off-peak hours (9 pm -5am), lane closures may be necessary for certain construction activities such as placing of steel bridge girders.
