New Sidewalks to Improve Mobility, Safety for Paradise Community Residents and Visitors

(July 15, 2010) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) later this month will begin a $300,000 project to construct new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)  compatible sidewalks, ramps, curbs, and driveway aprons along MD 144 (Frederick Road) between the Baltimore City/Baltimore County line and I-695.  The project will reconstruct or add new sidewalks on both sides of Frederick Road.

Beginning on or about July 26, temporary lane shifts and lane closures may occur along sections of MD 144 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.  During construction, sections of sidewalk may be temporarily closed.  Pedestrians will be directed to the opposite side of the road during any temporary sidewalk closures.  Weather permitting, SHA anticipates completing the project in late-September.

The MD 144 sidewalk reconstruction project is made possible through Governor Martin O’Malley’s aggressive management of the requirements of the landmark American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).  This project, together with other ARRA projects, is stimulating Maryland’s economy by preserving and creating thousands of jobs.  The State’s contractor for the project is Romano Concrete, Inc. of Laurel.
