Introduction
The purpose of this brochure is to share information about the collection and use of crash data by the Maryland State Highway Administration (SHA). Crash data is the basis for highway safety programs that lead to saving lives and reducing injuries. With good crash data, state and local agencies have a basis for making informed decisions about where to make highway safety improvements, and where it is best to use law enforcement, emergency medical, and other traffic safety resources.
