To better ensure that traffic safety issues and circumstances unique to or concentrated in a local area are addressed, a Local Highway Safety Coordinator has been designated by each of Maryland's 23 counties and Baltimore City. The Coordinators work with the local Task Forces to identify traffic safety issues/problems, develop appropriate countermeasures, and implement or advocate solutions. The Coordinators are the focal point for communication and cooperation among local government agencies and the private sector on traffic safety matters and with the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
