Description: |
SOUTH OF WOLF HILL DRIVE TO NORTH OF HAMPSTEAD |
Scope: |
This project includes the design and construction of two lanes of MD 30 on new alignment for approximately 4.40 miles. In addition to the two grade separations (structures) at Houcksville Road and Shiloh Road, two other structures are required to cross wetlands and waterways. The Hampstead Bypass will require three roundabouts: one near the southern terminus to provide a connection to existing MD 30; one at MD 482; and one near the northern terminus to provide a connection to existing MD 30. Additionally, two noise abatement systems are required along two existing residential developments known as the Singer and Westwood communities. |
Unique Design Features: |
Project alignment shift: During project planning and design, extensive coordination with the environmental resource and regulatory agencies was promted due to the presence of Bog Turtles. In 1994, the Deparment of Natural Resources (DNR) listed the bog turtle as a threatened species. The alignment was subsequently shifted to aviod direct impacts to bog turtle habitats known at that time. |
