The Maryland State Highway Administration is pleased to be hosting the 2009 American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Subcommittee on Maintenance (SCOM)/Transportation Research Board (TRB) meeting in Annapolis, Maryland on July 19 – 23, 2009. We are excited to have the opportunity to host this event and look forward to making your visit to Maryland a memorable one.
Annapolis is an 18th-century seaport town located in Anne Arundel County and is home of the oldest State House still in Legislative use. Located on the Chesapeake Bay, 33 miles east of Washington, DC and 30 miles southeast of Baltimore, Annapolis is considered the “Sailing Capital of the World” and is best known for the U.S. Naval Academy, tasty steamed blue crabs and the world renowned Chesapeake Bay crab cakes.
The conference will be held July 19 – 23, 2009 at the Loews Annapolis Hotel. A room rate of $126.00 per night excluding taxes which are currently 6% state plus 7% city has been negotiated. These group rates will be available from July 16 – July 26 to allow you to extend your stay and enjoy our great state while you are here. Please contact the hotel at 1-800-526-2593 to make room reservations. In order to receive the group rate, please use the group name "AASHTO 2009 Maintenance Conference." The group rate is available until June 1, 2009. The average daytime weather in our area for mid July is middle 80’s with a humidity level of 65 – 70%. The nights drop a little cooler and we will be close to the water so you might consider a light jacket for evenings out.
The closest airport to the conference is Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall (BWI). Airlines who service this airport are Air Tran, American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, US 3000 and US Airways. There are two other airports in the area of Maryland. They are Ronald Reagan National Airport (36 miles) in Washington, DC and Dulles International Airport (62 miles) in Dulles, Va. Transportation from BWI will be provided upon arrival and departure; however, transportation will not be supplied to and from National or Dulles.
