Various improvement alternates have been considered to address the transportation and safety needs in the MD 3 corridor. The alternates being studied in detail involve improvements to the existing roadway; alternates on new location are not being considered because of extensive environmental and community issues. The preliminary engineering and environmental studies conducted for this project contributed to the development and refinement of the preliminary alternates. Following the preliminary alternates analysis, the following alternates were selected for detailed study. Each of the alternates is described in the overview and shown in the detailed maps.
