STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TO MAKE DRAINAGE IMPROVEMENTS ALONG MD 85 (BUCKEYSTOWN PIKE) IN TUSCARORA, FREDERICK COUNTY
Buckeystown Pike to be Temporarily Closed Beginning Week of March 13; Motorists to be Directed Along Local Detour
(March 1, 2006) – The Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will soon begin drainage and other safety improvements along MD 85 (Buckeystown Pike) between south of Greenfield Road and MD 28 (Tuscarora Road) in Frederick County. Buckeystown Pike will be temporarily closed in order to complete the job in a safe and timely manner. The $494,000 drainage project will be complete June, weather permitting.
The project includes the replacement of two existing culverts to better manage storm water runoff and prevent standing water along the roadway. SHA will also resurface and re-stripe the roadway in the project area. Buckeystown Pike at Greenfield Road carries more than 5,100 vehicles per day, which will be directed to the detour route.
SHA will implement the temporary detours along Buckeystown Pike between Greenfield Road and MD 28: Motorists traveling southbound (From Frederick) on Buckeystown Pike will make a right turn onto Oland Road and make a left turn onto New Design Road to a left onto MD 28 to the intersection with Buckeytown Pike. Motorists traveling northbound (toward Frederick) will make first right turn after crossing the Monocacy River onto Park Mills Road and proceed to a left turn onto Lilypons Road back to Buckeystown Pike. Flag persons, detour signs, traffic barrels, and cones will be used to direct and guide motorists through the work zone.
The contract was awarded to Mirabile Construction Company of Baltimore, MD. SHA thanks motorists for their patience and reminds them to buckle up, obey posted speed limits and use caution while driving through the work zone.
