MARYLAND STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION HOSTS INFORMATIONAL MEETING ABOUT US 40 ALTERNATE BRIDGE IMPROVEMENT OVER CASSLEMAN RIVER IN GARRETT COUNTY
Public Encouraged to Attend Public Meeting about Proposed Rehabilitation; Information to Include Discussions on Temporary Detour Plan Next Summer
WHO: State Highway Administration (SHA) representatives, Community businesses and organizations, Area residents and motorists
WHAT: An informational meeting to acquaint motorists and citizens with details of the proposed rehabilitation of the US 40 Alternate Bridge over the Cassleman River and proposed four month closure that could begin spring 2008. Displays outlining operational and safety improvements will be available, as well as the suggested temporary detour plan for traffic.
WHEN: Monday, September 17 between 5:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.
WHERE: Grantsville Volunteer Fire Department, 107 Miller Street, Grantsville, Md. 21536
WHY: The project involves a proposed four month closure US 40 Alternate. The bridge rehabilitation, which could begin in late-spring 2008, will include the removal and replacement of the bridge deck (the driving surface), general repairs to steel trusses and cleaning and painting structural steel to prevent corrosion. The bridge was constructed in 1932 and carries approximately 4,500 vehicles per day.
