STATE HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION IMPROVES SAFETY ALONG MD 36 IN LONACONING, ALLEGANY COUNTY
Single Lane Closures Are Necessary for Resurfacing and Improvement
(September 28, 2007) – This week, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) began a $925,000 project to improve a sharp turn and resurface both directions along MD 36 (Lower Georges Creek Road) from MD 935 (Legislative Road) to south of the bridge over Georges Creek in Lonaconing, Allegany County. Weather permitting, the project will be completed by mid-fall
When the project is complete the road will be elevated and slightly banked to provide a safer turning movement. The project also includes full-depth patching, grinding and resurfacing, drainage improvements, traffic signal loop detector replacement and the application of new reflective pavement markings.
Single lane and shoulder closures may take place at any time throughout the duration of the project. Flag persons, variable message signs, advanced warning signs, traffic drums and cones will guide motorists safely through the work zones.
SHA awarded the contract to I.A. Construction Corp. of Cumberland. Citizens who have questions about traffic operations along MD 36 or any other State numbered routes within Allegany County, may call SHA’s District 6 Office at 301-729-8400 or toll-free at 1-800-760-7138.
