Mission: The mission of the Chief Engineer’s Office is to develop and coordinate the implementation of Administration policies pertaining to highway and bridge design, traffic design and safety programs, environmental design, maintenance and construction operations, materials and research, and provide direction for the Statewide Operations Center’s CHART (Cheaspeake Highway Advisories Routing Traffic) program which improves motorist safety, reduces congestion, and enhances freeway/expressway/major arterial operation.
