Highway Location Reference
General Information
The reference data will be updated on an annual basis with all data being based as of January 1st of each year. At present, procedures for incorporating changes, additions, deletions, etc. on a real time basis are not available. A corrected file showing all changes that occur during the year is maintained by the Highway Information Services Division.
This highway reference is arranged sequentially by county and by route number. Included are all State maintained highways and service roads.
Milepoints for concurrent posted routes are included under each pertinent route number.
The State Highway System is aggregated into primary and secondary routes by rural and urban designation.
Highways may be listed as undivided, divided or CTL (center turn lane) and by full, partial, or no control of access.
Milepoints are established for junctions of all State highways, County, Municipal and Other Public roads, Interchange Ramps, bridge structures, railroad crossings, traffic counts, exit numbers, Interstate mile markers, Speed Limit signs, and geographical boundaries.
The total marked lanes are listed including the traveled-way surface widths. Surface type codes are explained at the bottom of each page.
The maps included in this reference are provided for quick reference. If further detail is needed, please contact the Highway Mapping Team at 410-545-8747 or by email at [email protected].
The average annual daily traffic is for the year 2001.
For your information and use, we have included a "Route Alert List." This list of routes describes at a glance the additions, changes and deletions to state routes that occurred during the 2001 calendar year.
The information in this document is provided as a public service by the Maryland State Highway Administration (MSHA).
